So many good memories in this candy
Nov 17, 2024
My family is originally from clay county Ky we moved to Cincinnati in 1967
I remember making this candy My mom had a huge pot she cooked it in with a thermometer and we would watch that thermometer for it to get to a certain point then my dad would pour it out on a cold buttered large piece of marble slab
When the candy got cool it was a dark brown color and we would pull it by hand until it turned white. I remember laying it on our stokermatic heater and my mom cut it in pieces and it stayed there until it creamed
Oh my gosh !!! Good stuff

We are moving to Kentucky and were introduced to Ruth Hunt candies while staying at an Airbnb in Owingsville. We were in the state looking at properties. I didn't try my samples until I got back home in Minnesota. Oh my goodness was I stunned at the creaminess and pure delight of every bite. Just got back from another trip to Kentucky and stopped in the Mount Sterling store. I wish I could have purchased half the store. I will be ordering online when the temps cool off for mailing. I don't want my chocolate delights to melt. Can't wait to become a Kentuckian and enjoy more of these treats on a regular basis. We love this candy!

My sweet Granny
Mar 15, 2024
Born and raised in Los Angeles, nobody quite understands the love that is put into this candy by Ruth Hunt.
My Granny was born in Kentucky in 1950 and moved to Los Angeles in 1974 and brought her mother's recipe for cream candy with her.
I grew up eating it at her house and since nobody else knew about this candy, it was only at her house. She passed in 2018.
I've told my husband stories about this candy and for my birthday, he bought me a tin of Ruth Hunt. It nearly brought a tear to my eye, it tasted just like my Granny's.
Thank you Ruth Hunt for sticking around and keeping this legendary candy going.

Owner Response: Nathan,
Thank you for this wonderful story. There are not many folks left who make Cream Candy commercially, but we still do nearly every day. We appreciate your memory of your Grandmother. Thanks again.
Nothing better!

My wife and her family are all born and raised Kentuckians and have loved Ruth Hunt's pulled candy for many decades. The candy is blue ribbon quality and the customer service is the very best. What's not to love? Thanks for being a treasured part of the Bluegrass State!

Since moving to Mount Sterling, I have found my latest candy crush! Ruth Hunts Cream Candy is unbeatable. It is a definite favorite of mine and seeing a bag for sale, is an irresistible temptation! I've tried Mom Blakemans cream candy only to be severely disappointed. I'll just stick with Ruth Hunt, a product we can trust to always satisfy!

Growing up in the 60's, we would come to visit my Great Grandmother who lived on High St. in Mt. Sterling. Our Dad would always take us to "the candy store" when we can. It was a highlight of our trips. I had my 1st white chocolate there, it was shaped like a cat. Later, my Grandmother moved back and lived on Samuels Ave., and of course, we would still need a trip to Ruth Hunt. Once it was available online, we have been able to revisit our love of this candy still. Truly the best!

The good oll days in mountstearling. Daves market

I lived close to the hunt family and remember getting the candy. Back when i was 5. 50 years ago the cream candy was the same size as the bars of soap. I remember paying 5 cents for one of those bars and what a treat it was. I would run down to Dave's market on Richmond ave. i lived about 2 blocks from the store. Yes i had the original cream candy. And i still order it to this day.

Growing up as a kid my family would go visit my grandparents in Eastern Ky in Ashland but we would have to stop here every time. Alot of my family including my father grew up here in his younger years and had this Growing up as well. We have not found a bad batch of candy from this store ever. I just got a case of Blue Mondays from my wife for my birthday and all I can say is I am in heaven.

I haven't had cream candy this good since before my grandmother passed away. She always had a big baggie for me at Christmas time. She got if from a friend of hers that had been making it for decades. My husband bought me some of this for Christmas this year and I have been really enjoying it. It tastes just like what I remember and never fails to put a smile on my face.

I love cream candy. I got some from a store in Winchester Kentucky. I purchased a can of original cream candy but when I got it home it was a mixture of original and chocolate. I am not crazy about the chocolate but it was good. They need to show on the can that it is a mixture.

The Absolute Best

I discovered this (plain) pulled cream candy years ago when I was traveling to Columbus, Oh and stopped at a convenience store along the way. It immediately caught my eye and I had to have it. I've always loved butter mints and such as that, so that is what drew me in - but this, is the absolute best candy ever. I buy it anytime I am traveling and see it and order it online too. I cannot imagine that anyone else's could ever top it!

After the sweet ladies in my hometown that make cream candy, this is my favorite..smooth, and just great. There's another KY business that makes it, but theirs tastes like oil every time I've tried it..ugh..Mom needs to reformulate or quit skimping, or something.....but anywho, Ruth Hunt gets it right...this is like the stuff I grew up with..

I grew up in Eastern Kentucky. My Mother and Grandmother both went to the store several times a year. Mother actually took her high school class to the store every year-one of the annual highlights for them.
The cream candy is unbelievable-in my opinion the best in the country. The Blue Mondays as well.
I live in Atlanta now but I still visit the website and I'm willing to pay the shipping cost for something that is so very good.
Congrats on the 100 year anniversary.

Truly decadent treat

My first introduction to Ruth Hunt candy was through the True Treats Historic candy shop in Harpers Ferry, WV. There they had Blue Monday bars out on display and the packaging looked too good to resist so I bought a bar, and from there the rest is history. Last week I placed an online order and added some meltaways, bourbon black tea and a special anniversary tin of the Original cream candy. The cream candy is unlike any other confection I've ever had, it's delicate and breaks apart and melts away like butter with each bite, and as they state, it's made with the finest ingredients because you could taste the refined richness of the whipping cream. This treat is a luxury in texture and taste, a must-have.

The Rolls Royce of Candy

Amazing Kentucky made candy that is without doubt the finest confection made in the WORLD today! The plain is my absolute favorite however for the chocolate aficionados the chocolate covered is phenomenal! It rivals any Swiss confections Period!

I was raised in a small town between Louisville & Lexington. When my Mom went to Louisville to shop at Stewarts she would bring home a tin of Kentucky Cream Candy by the Colonel himself.. It was a reward & such a treat. That company is long gone and I have moved away but am delighted to find Ruth Hunt cream candy which is even creamier & better. I order often but can't seem to get enough.

This white cream candy is just as I remember from about 35 years ago! So good, just melts in your mouth! My husband and I used to stop in a little store off of I-24. I can't remember the town, it could have been Eddyville. Just about all they had was country ham, and this wonderful cream candy. I'm so glad to have discovered it again! Thank you, I'll be reordering again soon! I won't share it's hidden. Sincerely, Kathleen A. Foster

Delicious Memories!....

When I was a young girl growing up our family would always travel from NC to Kentucky every Thanksgiving. Stopping at the 'candy store' was one of my favorite memories from those trips! I reminisced with my parents several months ago and we shared the memory of the amazing taste of the Ruth Hunt original creme candy! I ordered a tin for my father for Father's Day and the wonderful delicious and delightful taste is still the same! What precious family memories this delicious candy stirred up for us! Thank you Ruth Hunt for providing such a special taste to remember that brings back our family memories for a lifetime!

A taste from heaven

I am not American. I was an international student at UK English school in Lexington, KY 2010. We had a school trip to Ruth Hunts Candy factory. I tasted the Blue moon for the first time. Then I became addicted to blue monday. It was very hard to find in Lexington. Then, I moved to Florida where no more Ruth Hunts candies there. A few days ago, I was browsing for some candies. I tried my best to remember the names but I could not. I wrote candies Kentucky in google map; and Ruth Hunts shows up. I didn't now what a pulled cream could be. My order included blue monday -for sure- and several other types including pulled cream. After the first second in my mouth, I knew why blue monday was addictive. It was the marvelous cream inside. Pulled cream candy own a butter creamy sooth taste in mouth. The crunchiness of the candy has a magical effect on my brain. It is art peace not just a candy. I hope Ruth Hunts can increase their production and sell it through Amazon. And open for overseas shipping.

About 30 years ago my great grandma lived only a couple houses down from the Mount Sterling location and I tried my first piece of pulled cream candy and was in love! I later found out that my great-grandmother used to give it to her children for Christmas presents as they were very poor and it was a special treat they only had once a year. My great-great-aunt decided that we needed to make up a batch and it was absolutely delicious and I never thought I'd taste anything like it again when she passed away even though she taught us how to make it and we can make it on our own. I was so wrong because Ruth Hunt candy tastes exactly like my aunt's did. I love that I can order it and those great memories come flooding back with every bite! I'd love to get down to visit the Mount Sterling location again someday oh, maybe I'll just have to take a road trip and do that! It's nice to be able to get it all year as we can only make it in winter time here since the marble slab has to be left outside to freeze. Thank you Ruth Hunt for keeping wonderful memories alive and providing the world with excellent candy!

My grandmother lived in Lexington. As a kid, cream candy was a luscious treat, as we lived in Wisconsin. My mother never made cream candy, but I was delighted to find it at Ruth Hunt, as the internet age evolved. My brothers & sisters all order this delightful confection online. What a wonderful time we live in!

I purchased 2 Blue Monday bars at Jungle Jim's. I have had cream candy before but not in a long time. The taste took me back to the day when I first tried cream candy. Pure heaven! Your candy is so delicious! Thank you so much! That is why I am on your page to write this review.

Bought bourbon balls on line for son in law several years ago. Traveling to Lexington, I stopped at the main store and bought a 2# assorted. So sweet and creamy, melts in the mouth, additive. Most unique texture. Super good, I prefer the pulled cream without chocolate.

I was introduced to Ruth Hunt Candy as a little girl by my Grandmother. We would visit family in Kentucky (Owensville and Mt. Sterling) and I would load up on cream candy before our drive home to Ohio, hoping to have enough until the next trip back to Kentucky. That was over 30 years ago! Today, cream candy is still my favorite candy of all times! I've even introduced it to my own sons...which is who I'm ordering for today! They love it as well!
